South Seas Job Fair Attracts Hundreds as Resort Prepares to Open New Amenities in 2025
January 21, 2025
Hundreds of job seekers gathered at The Ranch Concert Hall & Saloon last week, drawn by the prospect of joining the South Seas team. The two-day interactive hiring experience aimed to fill 150 positions as the resort continues its recovery and prepares to open highly anticipated amenities this year.
The turnout, enthusiasm, and excitement of every potential employee was a heartwarming reminder of the legacy of South Seas as the largest employer on Captiva Island.
A Landmark Event for Community Employment
The job fair marked a pivotal step in the resurgence of South Seas following the devastating impact of Hurricane Ian in 2022, followed by Helene and Milton in 2024. As the island continues to rebuild, South Seas remains a cornerstone of community employment, offering job opportunities across a wide range of roles including hospitality, food and beverage, maintenance, and guest services.
“We’ve got Bellman, bell women,” said South Seas General Manager Shawn Farrell, “We have trolley drivers. We’ve got housekeeping, stewarding, leadership positions, retail, and all kinds of recreation.”
With peak-season staffing expected to exceed 230 employees, South Seas is proud to remain integral to Lee County’s thriving tourism economy.
An Interactive Approach to Recruitment
Designed to go beyond a traditional hiring fair, the event featured interactive elements that showcased the unique culture of South Seas and professional growth opportunities. Attendees participated in on-the-spot interviews, learned about various roles within the resort, and engaged with current team members to get a sense of life as a team member.
As music played and applicants mingled over complimentary food and drinks, attendees reported feeling energized by the resort’s legacy, the opportunity to work in such a breathtaking setting, and the welcoming environment created by South Seas staff.

Filling 150 Vital Roles
The 150 open positions ranged from entry-level opportunities to managerial roles, offering something for everyone. Departments hiring new talent included housekeeping, landscaping, front desk operations, and food and beverage services. South Seas’ leadership emphasized their commitment to offering competitive wages, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for career advancement.
“We understand the importance of not just filling jobs but building careers,” said Wendy Nicodemus, South Seas Director of Commercial Strategy, “Every position here plays a vital role in creating the exceptional guest experience that South Seas is known for.”
Looking Ahead
As South Seas prepares to open exciting new amenities in 2025, the resort is poised to continue its legacy of excellence while embracing new opportunities for innovation, resilience, and sustainability. Resort leadership emphasized that hiring events like this one not only support the resort’s reopening goals but also foster a sense of unity and optimism in the broader community.
“We’re a family,” said Shawn Farrell, “and a key part of the Captiva Island story.”
