Nature Activities

Connectwith Captiva’s Nature

With its rich island ecosystem and abundance of wildlife, the natural world is a highlight of your South Seas experience. The resort is set within a 330-acre nature preserve, where unique flora and fauna surround you at every turn. Turtle hatching sites, dolphin and manatee tours, and more are available for you to connect with this breathtaking environment. We consider ourselves conservators of nature—and while you are here, you are part of our conservation.

Island Flora

As you walk, bike, or drive your electric resort cart throughout South Seas, you will be privy to some of the most distinct flora that the region has to offer. Be on the lookout for mangroves, beach sunflower, Everglades palms, elderberry, smooth prickly pear, cabbage palmetto, buttonbush and coastal live oak.

Your Wild Neighbors

On Captiva you won’t just make friends with fellow guests—you will meet a few “wild” acquaintances as well. Animal life is abundant on land and below the surrounding waters of Pine Island Sound and the Gulf, including the West Indian manatee, the great egret, the gopher tortoise, the bottlenose dolphin, the white ibis, the Cuban anole lizard, the loggerhead sea turtle, and the roseate spoonbill.
