A Welcome Return

South Seas is now open, and we’re delighted to welcome guests back to our pristine, white-sand shores.  This moment marks an important milestone in our work towards rebuilding from the devastation of Hurricane Ian last year.

Upon your first visit back to our property, you may notice South Seas looks a little different. While select areas of the resort remain under construction and some amenities may be more limited than you are accustomed to, we are continuing to make significant inroads in our recovery and rebuilding efforts.

We eagerly look forward to the return of friends and family to our seaside paradise.  From bicycling to walking the shoreline, to simply relaxing and enjoying time with friends and family, new experiences and fond memories await.

We will continue to update this page as we add new amenities and expand our offerings.

Recover & Restore, Better Than Before
South Seas Bayview Pool (Former North Pool)
While there was only minimal debris impacting this area, we are taking this opportunity to restructure the North Pool. Lounge poolside at our revamped bayside resort pool facility with new cabanas, poolside bar, refreshed landscaping, and seating.
Scoops & Slices
Unfortunately, our family favorite, Scoops & Slices, was damaged beyond repair and will be rebuilt in its new location at the previous Skullywags Kids Camp.
Golf Course
Prior to Hurricane Ian, construction of a reimagined 12-hole short course had been well underway. We continue to look forward to unveiling the new course - the perfect place to make memories for the entire family while practicing your swing!
Sunset Beach
Attitudes & Latitudes was completely devastated by the hurricane. This fall, we will welcome you to join us for barefoot casual beachfront dining at our new food truck venue located at Sunset Beach, and in the near future, the new Beach Club, with increased services for an elevated dining experience.
Shops at South Seas (Former Chadwick’s Square)
The main damage was to the roof, which is being re-shingled. In addition, we are excited about a multitude of new updates, including the most recent opening of Starbucks Coffee with store expansion planned in the future; the relocation of Guest Reception to Chadwick’s Square at the previous spa location; a reimagining of the Captiva Provisions Company and Sanibel & Captiva Properties Real Estate Office. We are optimistic that our shops will continue to re-open in 2024.
Redfish Pass
The protective embankment along the Redfish Pass was completely wiped out and is being reinforced to withstand greater stormsurge. We expect that our guests will be back to enjoying walks along the exquisite shoreline by fall 2023.
Eco Focus
As the reimagined resort begins to unfold, South Seas has partnered with local organizations to enhance and protect the island, ensuring a positive environmental impact not just within the boundaries of the resort, but throughout all of Captiva Island. In September 2022, a privately funded Resiliency Study was conducted to provide recommendations to improve the future resiliency of all of Captiva Island. The study focused on stormwater, wastewater, sea-level rise, and increasing storm intensity, with a comprehensive plan to address all environmental issues. Those findings can be read here.
Resort Grounds
We suffered significant damage to all our vertical structures, including office and service buildings, and lost 90% of our vehicle and cart fleet. Much of the vegetation around the property was destroyed either during the storm surge or due to saltwater inundation during the storm. Finally, we estimate that the storm brought roughly 100,000 cubic yards of sand ashore and we had sand three to four feet deep across much of the property. Clean up is in progress and we are rebuilding the next chapter of our beloved resort!
