Sanibel Sea School

Get Your Feet Wet

What’s better than a day of discovery on the ocean?

Explore Sanibel and Captiva’s unique island ecosystems and marine habitats hands-on. Discover Captiva’s shells, birds, and other incredible wildlife. Find a seahorse in the seagrass, spot a manatee (or two!), or discover tiny creatures that live between the grains of sand. Kids and families can embark on an ocean discovery under the helpful and knowledgeable guidance of marine science educators. Take a seasonally scheduled guided beachcombing walk, or sign up for kids programs right on the resort property. Bring your swimsuit and your sense of curiosity!

Discover Beachcombing:  Captiva Island offers world-class beachcombing, birding, and wildlife watching opportunities. There is so much waiting to be discovered here! Join our knowledgeable marine science educators for a casual guided beach walk to explore what’s washed ashore. We will talk about some of the more mysterious objects we find on the beach, look for interesting animals, and learn a little bit of shell biology. Your guide will be happy to answer any questions you might have along the way. No two beach walks are ever the same – the sea has a way of surprising us!

Sanibel Sea School Day Camp:  For children ages 6-13, this camp introduces students to the wonders of the marine world through meaningful, field-based ocean experiences. A variety of topics are offered including Dolphins, Crabs, Fish, and Sea Turtles. Every day is a field trip! Children should arrive ready to get in the water, wearing sunscreen, a swimsuit, and water shoes.

Reservations are required; Camp is available seasonally throughout the year.

Call (239) 472-7577 to register for class, sign-ups are required by 5 PM the previous day. All Sanibel Sea School programs meet at the towel stand at the main pool.
