Shelling

Shelling for Beautiful Treasures

Whether you’re starting a collection or adding to one, the best kinds of souvenirs come from the sea.

Given that Captiva Island is made out of shells, it should come as no surprise that the beach is world-famous for shelling, and known as the Shell Island. And at South Seas, warm Gulf waters, an expansive two-and-a-half mile stretch of beach, and more than 400 different types of shells mean that you can get your fill of hundreds of beautiful seashells that have washed ashore. Expect to find conch, junonia, lightning whelk, tulip, sand dollar, and more.

So grab a bucket and hit the beach! An hour before or after low tide is best. And since the beach is different every day, you’ll make new discoveries every time.
