Empowering Futures: The Inspiring Story of Folds of Honor

On May 17, 2024, South Seas will host the first annual South Seas Tarpon Tournament to benefit local scholarship recipients through Folds of Honor, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen or disabled service members and first responders.

The Origins of Folds of Honor

Meeting sacrifice with hope since 2007, Folds of Honor has become a beacon of support for the families of America’s fallen or disabled military personnel, now further extending its mission to include the families of first responders.

The organization’s origins can be traced to a poignant moment in the life of Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, during his flight home from his second tour of duty in Iraq.

As Dan’s flight landed, he witnessed the solemn scene of Corporal Brock Bucklin’s remains being carried on board. The sight of Corporal Bucklin’s twin brother accompanying the flag-draped casket, alongside his young son Jacob, left an indelible mark on Dan.

It was this moment that inspired him to dedicate his life to rallying patriotic Americans and providing hope to families facing the difficult realities of military service.
